When I met Ben at church, I let him know about my shoulder pain that I dealt with for over 7 years. I told him about the labrum surgery, physical therapy, and cortisone shots I had which gave me no relief. He came to my apartment that same day to help resolve the pain. He wasn’t able to fix it that day, but over the next year and a half, he taught me techniques and exercises which over time have relieved the worst of my symptoms. Sports have always been a big part of my life. Injuries and chronic pain made most physical activity difficult or impossible. Ben helped me regain confidence in body and belief that it will be able to do what I ask it to do without excruciating pain. Volleyball was something I wouldn’t conceive of doing prior to my work with Ben. I’m happy to say that I can now go 100% and pain isn’t something I think much about.

While the physical therapists I have had were half-hearted and half-present with me during workouts, Ben gave me his undivided attention every second he was with me. He pursued the root cause of my pain, not just the symptoms. He gave me thorough and helpful workouts specifically for me and my unique limitations. Thanks to Ben I can do workouts I never knew of that help me become stronger. I still struggle with pain sometimes, but the knowledge I gained about correct posture helps alleviate it. Before meeting Ben, I wasn’t able to do any kind of bicep workout without it hurting my shoulder. Now I can, and it shows.

When I first met Ben, I had very specific goals of wanting to increase my strength and muscle tone. Ben listened and incorporated strategies throughout the workout to help me meet my goals. He readjusted the workout according to my weaknesses & what I wanted/needed. He kept me moving when resting certain muscles, which made for a more effective workout. He’s very knowledgeable, which is what I needed. He has shown me a better way to exercise so that I can continue to grow strong, lose weight (Weight Watchers: lost 19 lbs since starting my sessions with Ben), & firm up. Plus he gave me tips on how I can do different exercises during the week and between sessions (Turkish Get-up, over-the-moon, Crab Shells, Crab Walk, etc.).

Ben knows how to relate to the client; young & old, male & female. He communicates well, pushes you and encourages you. I have learned a lot from this amazing young man who not only exemplifies what a great trainer should be, he showed me I am stronger than I thought. Thank you Ben!

“From my very first training session, Ben made me feel completely at ease.”

I have been training with Ben since February of 2020. Before training with Ben, I had played rugby for almost ten years, and had suffered some shoulder injuries (resulting in a surgery several years prior). I reached out to him wanting to regain confidence in the gym and to rebuild trust and strength in my shoulder. From my very first training session, Ben made me feel completely at ease. He listened to any concerns I had and walked me through each exercise, explaining its purpose and modeling the steps. I appreciated how affirming and patient he was. If something didn’t feel or look right, he would stop and work through it with me. This attention to detail and form is still one of my favorite things about training with Ben. He quickly learned what type of feedback I respond to and was able to both encourage and challenge me during our sessions.

Since then, I have regained a lot of confidence and my body feels great. I have more stability and control in my shoulder, I’m seeing more muscle definition, and I generally feel that I can move better than before. I have never been pushed too far during a session or gotten hurt while working with Ben. Instead, I leave all of our workouts feeling accomplished and looking forward to the next one. Ben has helped me set training goals, and continually reminds me of the progress I am making towards them! I would highly recommend Ben to any of my friends or family. When training seemed intimidating to me, he made it enjoyable and attainable. In working with Ben, two things stood out to me: His background in the military and collegiate athletics means he knows the importance of being stretched beyond your limits, and I felt that I would be challenged to do more than I would have alone. At the same time, I never felt pressured to do more than I was comfortable with. I went to Ben initially because of discomfort in my shoulder, and was focused on getting that problem fixed. But in the process of addressing that issue, I learned how interconnected everything in my body is. Ben began to work on strength and stability in other areas, and low and behold, the pain in my shoulder gradually disappeared!

Ben’s comprehensive approach set me on a course of focusing less on isolated weaknesses and more on overall strength and stability. He was patient and answered all of my questions, and I learned a lot about how my body works, along with feeling stronger, more stable, and more flexible.
